PTO Meeting

November 21, 2007

A regular meeting of the Parent Teacher Organization was held November 21,2007 in

the cafeteria of the Cornwall-On-Hudson Elementary School. All PTO officers were in attendance except for Sandi Kessner, Lori Smith & Ms.O'Dell.

Call to Order:  AnnMarie Dunn, made a motion to call the meeting to order at

9:00am and Bella Garrison, accepted the motion.

Review and Acceptance of October 17, 2007 minutes:

Chris McDonald made motion to accept the October 17, 2007, minutes with voted

corrections and AnnMarie seconds.

Principal's Report: 

Mr. Schmidt reported that the Halloween Spectacular was very successful and well attended. 

The 3rd & 4th grade tutorials are 2x's weekly for one hour before school starts

Mr. Schmidt would like feedback on the parent teacher conferences if the scheduling was good for the parents. 

New report cards:  Would like parent feedback.  Teachers will meet at the end of the year to adjust the report cards internally if necessary.

School spirit on the 16th went well.

In grade one the children had stone soup and Thanksgiving. 

The kindergarteners had had a turkey lunch.  The children dressed up as Pilgrims & Native Americans.

Board of Education had a work session regarding a full day for kindergarteners.  The district will send out questionnaires to see how well full day kindergarten is received by the local parents.  The full day would not infuse academics.  It would be for socialization, gross motor & child development.  It is neither a babysitting service.  Washingtonville is the other town in Orange County that does not have full day kindergarten available for its children.

Feedback offered to Mr. Schmidt regarding the report cards was to consider a percentage rather than a range.

Additional PTO member feedback was that the evening hours offered for the parent teacher conferences was greatly appreciated.

Change of superintendents Conference day in Febuary or March

A path that was paved in the summer exposed rebar and it was asked if it could be repaired

Faculty Report: 

Ms. O'Dell expressed her gratitude for the flowers that were went when she had surgery. 

The Yankee candle sale went very well. 

Teachers asked about the popcorn sale if a note could go home regarding both the

smencils and the popcorn being sold.

The absence of the skateboarders has been appreciated.

A families world is falling apart.  The dad has pancreatic cancer and Bella made amotion to let the executive comitte know about the family to possibly provide

support.

State Edcation website can be referred to for curriclumItis continually being revised and remapped.

Chris McDonald was not present for the meeting.  AnnMarie Dunn reported that if anyone has any concerns let Chris McDonald know.  On Parent mentioned that water is not given out in the school for lunch and they would like this to be looked into for it to be available in the future.

Second Vice President

Lori Smith reported that:

Yankee candle had fantastic sales.  The profit was $2092.00

Talked to Wendy Cuccire: the discount cards and they are all ready to go.

The drama proposal was recieved and the costs are $5,537.00 for the total budget. Frank Ostrander is doing the sound for Crazy for You.  im Poje reported that she talked to Mr. Schmidt and he said that Walter Moran of buildings and grounds regarding a fund raiser for this. 

Missy Berean asked about the basketball court to build a back wall because the kids like to bounce the ball back there.  AnnMarie Dunn suggested that Missy talk

to Mr. Schmidt about it and defer to Francine.  Lastly to wait for a written

proposal

Sandi Kessner reported that we received Thank You's from Ms. ODell & Christine

Williams. 

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Treasurer

Francine Clancy was not present for the meeting.  Her reports were present for the meeting.  We will wait on the Clearwater.  It was also reported that Mrs. Omara had nothing in writing on the Clearwater either.  A member had suggested that the PTO send back the bill with documentation of what we have paid.  Bella Garrison had made a motion to request documentation and Sonia Briggs seconded the motion to send the bill to Mr. Schmidt. 

Bella Garrison made a motion to accept the budget for 2006-2007, Sandi Kessner seconded the motion.
